Qatar boosts Quiros to world no. 28
Alvaro Quiros from Spain won the Commercialbank Qatar Masters after holding his nerve over a tense final round to edge out former champion Henrik Stenson and Louis Oosthuizen by three shots. The three players were neck and neck going into the final nine holes but Quiros made a telling 15 foot putt for bogey on the 15th after visiting the water then birdied 16 and 17 to ease ahead. The win takes Quiros to world number 28, a jump of 46 positions, and he can look forward to starts in the two upcoming World Golf Championships plus the Masters Tournament in April.
Stenson rejoins the top ten, up four into 7th, while Oosthuizen nears the top 50, up 25 spots to 58th.
