Tiger Woods confirms entry to WGC-CA Championship

Tiger Woods will continue his comeback from reconstructive knee surgery by playing in next week’s WGC-CA Championship in Florida, his website said on Friday.

The world number one competed in his first tournament for eight months at last week’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona, losing to South African Tim Clark in the second round.

His website said the 33-year-old American reported no soreness or swelling after the Match Play and has since been working hard on his game.

The WGC-CA Championship, which Woods has won six times, will be his first strokeplay event since he won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in June.

The 14 times major winner has enjoyed success at the Blue Monster course at Doral, winning the Ford Championship in 2005 and 2006, and the WGC-CA in 2007.

Woods finished fifth in last year’s event, two strokes behind winner Geoff Ogilvy of Australia, ending a run of five consecutive PGA Tour victories.

The world number one has dominated WGC (World Golf Championship) tournaments.

In 27 starts he has won 15 times, recorded 24 top-10 finishes and earned nearly $20 million.
