Henrik Stenson & Robert Karlsson to join up again for World Cup defence

Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson are keen to renew their winning partnership for Sweden’s World Cup defence in southern China later this year. The duo put together a sizzling nine-under-par 63 in final round foursomes to win the 54th version of the $5.5 million event at Mission Hills last November.

The highest-ranking player from each of the qualifying 28 nations chooses his team mate for the tournament and world number six Stenson is clearly not inclined to break up a winning combination with 12th-ranked Karlsson. “I am really looking forward to going back to defend with him—if both he and I can bring some game back to China there is no reason why we can’t repeat it,” Stenson, who won the prestigious Player’s Championship last month, said in a media release.

“It is a great achievement for any country to be world champions, no matter what the sport is, and I hope Robert and I can do it all again.”

Karlsson, the 2008 European Order of Merit winner, selected Stenson as his partner last year and is hoping his 33-year-old compatriot will reciprocate for the return to Shenzhen from Nov. 26-29.

“It was a great experience to partner with him at the World Cup and I hope we can do the same again this year,” the 39-year-old said.

Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods are among the former winners of the World Cup and although it has lost some of its lustre in recent years, sponsors have promised more big names for the third year of its residence at Mission Hills.
