Keep it simple... I just try to put it on the fairway, then the green and not three putt. The most important shot in golf is the next one. Imagine the ball has little legs, and chop them off. Swing easy and hit hard. Keep on hitting it straight until the wee ball goes in the hole. I just hitch up my girdle and let 'er fly. Only one golfer in a thousand grips the club lightly enough. A routine is not a routine if you have to think about it. Many shots are spoiled at the last instant by efforts to add a few more yards. Play the shot that makes the next shot easy. The woods are full of long drivers. Hit the shot you know you can hit, not the one you think you should. If you buy a book on golf instruction buy the thinnest book you can find. The thinner the book, chances are the easier and more elementary the instruction. It can do one of two things: help you more or hurt you less. Both are good compared to the alternative. You can't go into a shop and buy a good game of golf. Properly fitted clubs are the only part of improved golf that anyone can buy. Keeping the head still is golf's one universal, unarguable fundamental. The number one thing about trouble is...don't get into more. You don't hit anything on the backswing, so why rush it? Nobody ever swung a club too slowly. Every golfer scores better when he learns his capabilities. If you try to fight the course, it will beat you. The best exercise for golfers is golfing. I have a tip that will take five strokes off anyone's game. It's called an eraser. Don't play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty. The best advice I can give for playing a ball out of water is - don't. I never learned anything from a match that I won. When it's breezy, hit it easy. This is a game of misses. The guy who misses the best is going to win. The mind messes up more shots than the body. A man who can putt is a match for anyone. Be decisive. A wrong decision is generally less disastrous than indecision. Don't be in such a hurry. That little white ball isn't going to run away from you. Too much ambition is a bad thing to have in a bunker. Through the ball we are all the same. We just have different ways of getting it there. The real success in golf lies in turning three shots into two. The better you putt, the bolder you play. Never try a shot you haven't practised. Concentrate on hitting the green. The cup will come to you. Golf is 20 percent talent and 80 percent management. Missing a short putt does not mean you have to hit your next drive out of bounds. You swing your best when you have the fewest things to think about.
