No. 13 - Distance

We'd all like more distance on our shots, but how to get it?
Hitting the ball far is not just a matter of strength and effort. Good swing mechanics are every bit as important. Try these tips and remember: you're trying to swing the club through the ball, not hit at it.

To hit the ball farther some key points must be adhered to:
1. Tee the ball higher to produce a flatter, ascending swing arc.
2. Make a full 90 degrees shoulder turn and a wide arc with the club on the backswing. Be sure you complete your backswing before starting the downswing.

3. When making the backswing the large muscles [of the trunk/torso] are being wound-up like a spring as you turn against the right knee. The knee should always be at the same angle as it is in the address position.
4. To start the downswing feel the weight shifting to the left side which triggers a chain reaction of the hips, chest, arms and finally the club all pulling into the ball.
5. Try to keep the head behind the ball at impact.
