Modern golfers have the advantage of a wide choice of pitching clubs, or wedges, to help make the business of pitching easier. But whatever your choice of weapon, the basics of the short pitch are the same.
Sharpen you short game with these simple tips.
Please note: all lessons refer to right-handed golfers. For more help, see your PGA pro
1. The pitch travels more through the air than on the ground. Play it when there is an obstacle between the ball and hole, with a lofted club
2. Grip firmly, but not tight
3. Use an open stance
4. Position the ball in the middle of the stance
5. 60% of weight on the left side
6. Place the hands down the grip and ahead of the ball at address
7. Use a smooth three-quarter backswing and three-quarter follow-through. Let the club do the work - don't try to 'help' the ball into the air
