Namibian Trevor Dodds held on to his
lead in the rain-affected Alfred Dunhill championship on Saturday as organisers
decided to reduce the tournament to 54-holes.
Waterlogged greens and soggy fairways
forced play to be suspended twice before play was eventually called off in mid-afternoon.
"We have had non-stop rain for three
days now," tournament director Miguel Vidoar said. "I think that if we had been
anywhere but the Houghton Golf Club this tournament would have been a washout
long ago."
"We will start tomorrow at nine o'clock
with the possibility of even completing the tournament on Monday," Vidoar said.
"The only light at the end of the tunnel is that conditions may improve on Sunday
afternoon."
The final three ball, including Dodds,
managed only to hit their opening third round drives before rain won the day.
Dodds on 134, 10 under par, leads by
two strokes from England's Anthony Wall and Scotsman Gary Orr.
Englishmen Peter Baker and Paul Broadhurst
and Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez are four shots off the pace.
