Forsyth & Harrington
pull clear with 62's
Scotland's Alastair Forsyth
shot a 10-under-par 62 today to take a two-stroke lead after the second round
of the Rio de Janeiro 500 Years Open, the first PGA European Tour event in South
America.
Forsyth, who tied the course
record set Thursday by Australia's Peter Lonard, had a 17-under 127 total on
the Itanhanga course. Ireland's Padraig Harrington also shot a 62 earlier in
the day for a 129 total
"I knew I was eight shots
behind Padraig Harrington going into my second round, but I wasn't even looking
at his total," Forsyth said. "I didn't think anyone would get near him, let alone
me."
Scotland's Raymond Russell
(66), England's Roger Chapman (64), Argentina's Jorge Berendt (67) and Switzerland's
Paulo Quirici (69) were tied for third at 134.
Lonard shot a 74 for a
136 total.
