Smith maintains three shot lead

Chris Smith fired a three- under-par 69 on Saturday and maintained his three-shot lead after three rounds of the Buy.com Dayton Open. Smith, who has led after each of the first three rounds, has a three-day total of 13-under 203 and is trying to become the first wire-to-wire winner on tour this year.

Ian Leggatt is tied for second place at 10-under par with Jaxon Brigman. Leggatt carded four-under 68 on Saturday, while Brigman shot a three-under 69.

Smith birdied the opening hole, the same hole as his incredible double-eagle during Friday's round, and added three more birdies on the front side to make the turn at 14-under par. He made birdies at 12 and 14 and had a commanding lead, but a bogey at 16 and a double-bogey at the 18th left his margin at just three.

"It just happens," Smith said about his double-bogey at the last hole. "This golf course is hard. If you miss a shot it can jump out and grab you. I hit a bad shot and I three-putted."

Smith's bad shot was a drive into the lake that guards the right

Leggatt eagled the first hole and added three more birdies during his round, but a bogey at the 15th and pars on the final three holes left him tied for second.

Brigman had four birdies during his round before a bogey at 16 and two pars to close the day gave him a share of second.

The remainder of the field is well off the pace. Jay Hobby, John Riegger, Tripp Isenhour and Steve Runge are seven shots behind at minus-six.

Isenhour leads the Buy.com money list this year, while Smith is second. Smith, however, has yet to win this year but has three second-place finishes.
