Isenhour shoots 65 to lead by one

Tripp Isenhour recorded a bogey- free seven-under 65 to take the lead after Thursday's opening round of the Buy.com Tour Knoxville Open. Matt Peterson, Garrett Willis and Spike McRoy share second place at six-under, while J.J. Henry is alone at minus-five.

Isenhour's 65 matches the course record for the 7,142-yard Fox Den Country Club set by Carl Paulson in the final round of last year's event. The tournament's 18-hole record of 63 was established in 1995 when the event was held at Three Ridges Golf Club.

Isenhour collected seven birdies over the course of his round including two over his last three holes to take the lead late in the day.

Currently ranked number-one on the Buy.com Tour's money list with $142,726 in earnings, Isenhour has finished in the top-five in three of his seven starts this season. He notched his first-ever tour win at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Open in March, finished in a tie for second at the Shreveport Open and tied for third at the Monterrey Open.

Kent Jones, the winner of last month's Shreveport Open, posted a 68 to finish round one tied with six others at minus-four.

1999 champion Jeff Gove finished 12th on last season's Buy.com Tour money list and is competing on the PGA Tour in 2000.
