Crowded at the top after
two rounds
Kelly Grunewald shot a 6-under-par
66 Friday and moved into a three-way tie for the lead after the second round
of the Lakeland Classic.
Grunewald
joined Donnie Hammond and first-round leader Mike Standly at 9-under 135. Chris
Zambri and Jeff Gallagher are one stroke behind the leaders, while a group of
three players are two shots back in a tie for sixth.
Grunewald,
who tied for fourth at last week's season-opening Florida Classic, took advantage
of the par-5s at the Grasslands Golf & Country Club, recording two birdies and
an eagle. He added two more birdies and did not have a bogey.
Hammond
also did not bogey while collecting four birdies. A member of the PGA tour from
1983 to 1998, Hammond has 10 birdies and just one bogey through 36 holes.
Standly
was just 1-under on his round after firing an 8-under 64 on Thursday. Also struggling
was Rob McKelvey, who was one shot behind Standly after the first round but stumbled
to a 4-over 76 and is six strokes back in a tie for 29th.
Fran
Quinn, winner of last week's Florida Classic, barely made the cut after moving
to 143 with a round of 2-under 70. Among those who missing the cut of even-par
144 were Kevin Johnson, Steve Ford and Guy Hill, who all finished in the top
four last week.
