Jaidee takes one shot
lead
Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee
overhauled India's Arjun Atwal to take the lead in the third round of the Malaysian
Open golf tournament on Saturday.
Thongchai took advantage
of benign conditions after overnight rain to card a four-under-par 68 for an
aggregate 10-under 206 and set up the chance of becoming the first Thai ever
to win the tournament.
"I'm lucky to be going
into the final day leading," Thongchai, 28, said.
Atwal, who had led for
the first two rounds and had begun the day three shots ahead of Thongchai, dropped
to joint 11th with a 75 for a three-round aggregate 210.
Atwal played well enough
on the first nine for a one-under 35 but struggled in the second half.
South Africa's Nico van
Rensburg, second overnight, finished the day one stroke behind Thongchai after
a third round 71, having shot the only eagle of the tournament so far on the
par-five 10th hole.
Denmark's Steen Tinning,
Pakistan's Taimur Hussain and Scotland's Greig Hutcheon were next, a further
stroke back on 208.
Germany's Bernhard Langer,
favourite going into the tournament but way off the pace throughout, shot a two-under-par
70 for his best round so far and is two-under overall on 214.
