Baird wins after final round 66

Briny Baird fired a six- under-par 66 on Sunday and rolled to a four-shot victory at the Monterrey Open in Mexico. Baird finished with a four-day total of 20- under 268, setting a tournament-record.

Mark Hensby finished second at 16-under after posting a four- under 68 on Sunday. Tom Kalinowski, Brian Tennyson and Tripp Isenhour tied for third at 14-under.

Baird, whose father Butch won two events each on the PGA Tour and Senior Tour, collected a first-prize of $81,000 and moved up to third on the money list. It was his first win in 49 events.

"It's been a long time coming," said Baird, who recorded his second top-10 finish of the year. "I can't say I patiently waited. But I've paid some respects to get here. My dad told me to be patient, be patient."

Baird, who started the day with a one-shot lead over Isenhour and J.J. Henry, eagled the first hole and added birdies on the fourth and fifth holes to build a five-shot cushion. He reached 20-under with an eagle at the ninth and cruised to the victory.

The closest anyone got on the back nine was three, when Isenhour birdied the 11th and 12th holes to reach 17-under.

"I didn't have a chance," said Isenhour, who bogeyed the 18th hole to fall into a tie for third. "He played so good, he did not give anyone else a chance."

Isenhour, who won the Mississippi Gulf Coast Open two weeks ago, leads the money list with $100,200. Hensby is second, just $4 behind.

Hensby finished second for the second time in four events this season. He was also the runner-up at the season-opening Florida Classic in February.

"I don't like finishing second, but on this tour you finish second and you know you have played very well," said Hensby. "I just want to win one and relax a little. The main goal is to finish top-15 and I'm on my way."

Henry, who started the day one shot behind Baird, finished tied for sixth at 13-under with David Berganio. Former PGA Tour players Bob Gilder and Jeff Gallagher tied for eighth at minus-12.
