22 past Open winners enter Champions Challenge

22 past Open champions have confirmed that they will be competing in next Wednesday's special four-hole past Champions Challenge at St. Andrews.

All but six - Sam Snead, Peter Thomson, Roberto de Vicenzo, Tony Jacklin, Tom Weiskopf and Ian Baker-Finch are also competing in the Open itself.

The event will be played in threes or fours, with the winning team earning £40,000 for charity.

In addition, each of the 22 participants will be given the Freedom of the Links.

Veteran Arnold Palmer has decided not to fly over, but the only other champions missing are Greg Norman, who is currently injured, Johnny Miller, Kel Nagle and Max Faulkner.

The four-hole event starts on Wednesday and the 22 competing are 88-year-old Snead, Thomson, Gary Player, Bob Charles, Jack Nicklaus, de Vicenzo, Tony Jacklin, Lee Trevino, Weiskopf, Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros, Bill Rogers, Sandy Lyle, Nick Faldo, Mark Calcavecchia, Baker-finch, Nick Price, John Daly, Tom Lehman, Justin Leonard, Mark O'Meara and Paul Lawrie.
