Paul Affleck leads by
a shot
Wales' Paul Affleck shot
a 5-under-par 66 today to take a one-stroke lead over six players after the first
round of the PGA European Tour's Sao Paulo 500 Years Open.
"My ambition this year
is to win a tournament," Affleck, 33, said after his bogey-free round on the
Sao Paulo Golf Club course. "I've been promising my wife, Norma, for seven years
that I would win one, so that's my aim."
Wales' David Park, last
year's Compaq European Grand Prix winner, was a stroke back along with Brazilians
Jose Aderbal and Ruberiel Felizardo, Swedes Per Nyman and Richard Johnson and
Spain's Tomas Munoz.
"I have been pleased with
what I've achieved so far this year, but I haven't finished off well enough at
the weekends," Park said. "That is my main complaint."
France's Fabrice Tarnaud
had the first double-eagle of the 2000 tour season, holing his second shot on
the par-5 17th hole.
