Harrington & Park
lead in to last day
Padraig Harrington of Ireland
shot a 6-under 65 today and tied David Park of Wales for the third-round lead
in the $750,000 Sao Paulo 500 Years Open.
Park registered a 68, and
the leaders had 54-hole totals of 202 going into Sunday's final round.
Harrington lost in a playoff
last week at Rio de Janeiro, one of seven second-place finishes in the past 11
months.
On Saturday, he had a flawless
round with six birdies and no bogeys.
"My intention was just
to get closer to the leaders," he said. "I'll take my chances now."
Park, who won the Compaq
European Grand Prix last year, opened with four straight birdies to wrest the
lead from British rookie Matthew Blackey. But he lost three strokes in the middle
holes before sinking long birdie putts on the final two holes.
"Padraig is a great Ryder
Cup player and is the man to beat," Park said.
Miguel Angel Martin of
Spain shot a 66 to remain one stroke off the pace. Blackey, who shot a course-record
8-under 63 Friday, turned in a 71 to fall two strokes back, tied with France's
Jean-Francoi Remesy and American Gerry Norquist.
Norquist, winner of the
Malaysian Open in 1999, had the day's best round, a 64.
