Harrington wins by two
shots
Ireland's Padraig Harrington
won the Sao Paulo 500 Years Open today, closing with a 3-under-par 68 for a two-stroke
victory over American Gerry Norquist.
Harrington, coming off
a playoff loss to England's last week in Rio de Janeiro, finished with a 14-under
270 total on the Sao Paulo Golf Club course. He will be playing in The Masters
for the first time this coming week at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta,
Ga.
"I felt very relaxed, even
after losing last week. I didn't let it get on top of me," Harrington said. "I
felt comfortable and made a couple of good 20-footers on the back nine. I came
to Brazil for competitive practice and I got that.''
Norquist, the Malaysian
Open winner last year, also finished with a 68. Englishmen Greg Owen, Ian Poulter,
and Steve Webster, Argentina's Eduardo Romero, and Paraguay's Pedro Rodolfo Martinez
tied for third at 278.
