Porter takes lead into last day

Lee Porter fired a six-under-par 66 on Saturday and has a two-shot lead at nine-under par after three rounds of the Buy.com Tour South Carolina Classic. Brett Quigley, John Elliott and Jeff Gallagher are tied for second place at seven-under par.

Porter had three birdies each on the front and back nine. He took the lead for good at the 13th hole after his third straight birdie on the back nine and saved par on the final hole after getting up-and- down from a greenside bunker.

"It was nice to finish on a good note like that," said Porter. "That was probably the only bad iron shot I hit all day. To be able to get up-and-down on that hole, I was real pleased."

Quigley carded a three-under 69 on Saturday and held the lead early in his round after birdies on four of his first six holes. However, a double-bogey on the ninth hole cost him a share of the lead at the end of the day.

"I just had that one hiccup on nine and made double and really paid the price," said Quigley, a 1991 graduate of the University of South Carolina.

Elliott and Gallagher each shot one-under 71s on Saturday for their share of second place. Elliott was the runner-up at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Open, while Gallagher finished second at the Lakeland Classic.

Lee Rinker, Alan Bratton, Robert Gamez and Ken Green are each three off the pace at six-under, while second-round leader Sonny Skinner is next at minus-five.

Skinner, who posted a six-under 66 on Friday, ballooned to a two-over 74 on Saturday. A two-time winner on the Buy.com Tour, Skinner is searching for his first victory since he won the 1994 Dominion Open. He is currently 22nd on the Tour's money list and he notched a top-10 finish at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Open.

First-round leader David Berganio, Jr. is among eight players just five shots back at four-under.
