High winds halt second round

Friday's second round of the Buy.com Tri-Cities Open was suspended due to darkness at 10:03 p.m. (et) with 74 players left on the course. Play was delayed for nearly three hours beginning at 1:41 p.m. (et) because of winds gusts that were clocked at 40 miles per hour.

Second-round play is scheduled to resume Saturday at 10:30 a.m. (et). The players with the low 55 scores plus ties after 36 holes will make the cut. Those players will be grouped into threesomes that will be sent off on both the first and 10th tees in order to facilitate the completion of the entire third round on Saturday.

While a total of 44 players recorded rounds of 72 or better in Thursday's opening round, only four out of the 69 players that were able to finish round two on Friday posted scores at or under par over the windswept par-72 Meadow Springs Country Club.

Lee Rinker is the current leader at five-under par through 13 holes of his second round. Darron Stiles is next at four-under after 10 holes, and Todd Demsey and J.J. Henry share third place at minus- three. Demsey is through 13 holes and Henry has played 12.

First-round leaders Zach Johnson, Don Reese and Rob McKelvey struggled in Friday's conditions. Johnson, who is tied for fifth place at one-under, was four-over through 11 holes. Reese finished round two at even-par 144 with a five-over 77, 10 shots worse than his first- round score. McKelvey, who was also at even-par when the play was halted, is five-over after 11.
