Montgomerie still leads
as 3rd round finishes
Colin Montgomerie’s fine form in the
Volvo PGA Championship continued in the rain-delayed third round as he took a
three-shot lead into Monday’s final round at Wentworth.
Europe’s top golfer, who has won the
event for the past two years, held off attacks from Ryder Cup team-mates Andrew
Coltart, Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia as they all got out of bed early to finish
their round at 7:30am.
Two birdies in his five holes on Monday
took the Scot to 14-under-par, while compatriot Coltart finished three strokes
behind at 11-under.
Lee Westwood completed a spectacular
inward nine, hitting seven birdies as he moved into third place at 10-under-par.
Montgomerie was pleased with his form,
saying: "That's OK considering the third round did not go to plan. I set off
with a crazy three-putt and didn't quite get going. I didn't birdie the fourth
or 12th (both par fives) and suddenly I was only one ahead.
"But I played very well this morning
and I feel very confident about my chances of winning this again."
