Cabrera gains
first European Tour win
Local
favorite Angel Cabrera carded a three-under 67 on Sunday to win
the Argentina Open by two shots at 12-under 268. Carl Pettersson,
a co-leader with Cabrera after the third round, finished alone in
second at minus-10.
This victory
marked the first win on the European Tour for Cabrera, who had finished
as a runner-up on four occasions. He has posted top-10 finishes
in all three events he has entered this season.
"This is one
of the most important moments of my life," said Cabrera. "I have
longed for this victory for a long time -- to win this tournament
in my own country. I could never do it before and now I am very
happy."
Graeme Storm
came in third at eight-under, while Matthew Blackey, Mark Mouland,
Henrik Bjornstad and Costantino Rocca shared fourth at minus-six.
Cabrera and
Pettersson began the day tied at the Jockey Club and it was Pettersson
who struck first with a birdie at one. The lead was reversed two
holes later as Pettersson over-clubbed while Cabrera birdied the
hole, which gave him a lead he would not let go.

Cabrera parred
the next six after his birdie at three before he added a birdie
at the par-five 10th, his third at that hole during the week.
Pettersson
mixed two bogeys and a birdie until he reached the 15th, where he
trailed by three. He birdied that hole and then added another at
16 when he drained a 25-footer. Cabrera also birdied the 16th when
he ran home a 15-foot putt, which allowed him to keep a two-shot
lead that he carried to the finish.
"The 16th was
the key," said Cabrera, who improved to 10th on the Order of Merit
after this title. "I knew I was leading by two strokes and Carl
holed a great putt for birdie. I knew I had to hole mine and luckily
made a good putt."
Pettersson,
who shot a final-round, one-under 69, is competing in his first
season on the European Tour after he graduated from the Qualifying
School Finals last year.
"I thought
I handled myself well," said Pettersson. "I was a little nervous
starting off but calmed down with a birdie on the first. He outplayed
me today."
Storm, also
a rookie on the tour, birdied two of his last four down the stretch
to grab third. He carded a 69 on Sunday.
Nic Henning,
Olle Karlsson, Vicente Fernandez, Daren Lee and Hennie Otto rounded
out the top-10 at five-under-par 275.
