NOTES:
Michele Redman carded a final-round 68 to earn a three-shot victory
over Meg Mallon and Jean Bartholomew. It was the second win of her career and
her only win in 2000. Redman, trailing by five shots after round one, shot a
second-round 66 to take a one-shot lead into Sunday over opening round leader
Tina Barrett, who shot an even-par 72. Barrett, who opened the event with a
course-record 63, could do no better than 72 again on Sunday to tie for fifth.
Redman tied the 36-hole mark of 134 set by Laura Davies in 1996 and equaled
the 54-hole record of 202 set by Annika Sorenstam in 1996. Sorenstam is the
only player in tournament history to post four rounds in the 60's when she won
in 1996 and is the only two-time winner of this event. Sorenstam was also
runner-up in 1998. This is the sixth year of the tournament and for the first
four years was a four-day event, while last year, it was trimmed down to 54
holes. This season it returns to the 72-hole format. Tournament host Betsy
King shot rounds of 72-71-72 to tie for 41st. Last year, the par-3 third hole
proved to be the most difficult with a scoring average of 3.267 while the
par-5 18th was the easiest at 4.788. The four hardest holes on the course were
on the front nine (3, 7, 2 and 6 in order of difficulty). Overall, the course
played to a scoring average of 72.513 for the week. Only four of the top-15
players on the money list are competing this week. Next week, the LPGA Tour
moves to Illinois for the State Farm Classic where Laurel Kean will defend her
title.
