A new record
for Durant
Joe
Durant created a first in PGA history by finishing his fourth round
in 66 putting his score for 72 holes at 29 under par. This beat
the previous record set earlier this year by Mark Calcavecchia at
28 under par with a winning 256 at the Phoenix Open.
Durant's
six-under-par 66 on day four of the 90-hole Bob Hope Classic in
California, gave him a five-shot lead which if he maintains his
4 round standard will be hard to catch.
"I'm
very pleased to have made the record," said Durant, who had
already recorded rounds of 65, 61 and 67.
"You
get lost in things this week. You just keep trying to make birdies.
I just kept plugging out there, trying to take advantage of my chances."
Durant
is seeking his first PGA title since winningthe 1998 Western Open.
Almost overshadowing
Durant's achievement was the 71 returned by Arnold Palmer. One of
the few rounds where a player equals or beats his own age. The 71
year old Palmer was delighted at his score and the way he had palyed.
