Scott moves two shots
clear
Australia's Adam Scott carded
a five-under 67 Saturday to take a two-shot lead at 12-under 204 with one round
to play at the English Open. Jean Hugo (68) and Raphael Jacquelin (66) are tied
for second at minus-10.
Peter O'Malley, Marco Bernardini
and Justin Rose are five back at seven- under par.
Scott bogeyed the second
hole Saturday but rebounded with back-to-back birdies at three and four. He birdied
two of his last three on the front side for a 33 on the opening nine.
The Australian parred the
first six holes on the back, but got into red figures with a birdie at 16 before
he took a three-shot edge with a 30-foot eagle at the par-five 17th. Scott dropped
a shot at the last hole when he found difficulty in a bunker, but still left the
Arden Course Saturday win good position to win for the second time in his career.
"I'm pretty happy with
a two-shot lead," said Scott, who won the Alfred Dunhill Championship in January
of this year. "It makes it a little easier for me tomorrow."
Jacquelin posted a six-under
66 thanks to three front-nine birdies. The Frenchman birdied 10 and then birdied
three of his last five to get within two of Scott.
Jacquelin is looking to
become the second consecutive Frenchman to win on the European Tour as Thomas
Levet survived a four-man playoff last week at the British Masters.
"Following Thomas as a
winner is what I'm thinking about," said Jacquelin, who has recorded three top-10
finishes this season. "It was great for French golf and French golfers. It gives
us confidence knowing Thomas has won."
Hugo mixed eight birdies
and four bogeys on Saturday but the South African, who graduated from the European
Challenge Tour last year, is looking to the future.
"If I do well tomorrow
I'll lock up my card," said Hugo. "That's the difficult bit, getting the card
first year out."
Retief Goosen carded a
seven-under 65 and is alone in seventh at five- under.
Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter
and Paul McGinley share eighth at minus-four.
