Roe & Reale lead with 63's

Local favorite Michele Reale and Mark Roe of England were tied with a two-shot lead Thursday after the rain-shortened first round of the Italian Open.

Italy's Reale and Roe had 9-under-par 63s, just a shot off the course record set last year on this Italian island by Pierre Fulke.

Another Swedish player, Fredrik Andersson, had a 65. Five more players are three strokes off the lead.

Seven players are four back, including defending champion Ian Poulter of England, who wrapped up European tour rookie of the year honors with last year's win in this event.

American Robin Byrd is in a group five shots back.

Roe and Reale are among a swarm of players fighting this week to keep their European Tour cards. This is the last tournament where they can earn enough money to climb into the top 115 on the Order of Merit.
