Havret claims first tour
title
Tour rookie Gregory Havret
of France won his first European title Sunday, capturing the Italian Open with
a one-stroke victory over Bradley Dredge of Wales.
Havret, who entered the
final round in second place, shot a 3-under-par 69 to finish at 20 under.
He handled a difficult chip
shot at the 16th hole for his final birdie of the day before two-putting on the
18th to seal the victory.
Dredge eagled the first
hole on his way to a 69 and a 269 total.
Tied for third at 271 were
three Englishmen -- defending champion Ian Poulter, Mark Roe and Shaun Webster
-- and Spaniard Diego Borrego.
Roe, the first-day co-leader
with Italy's Michele Reale, had Sunday's best round with a 66. Germany's Sven
Struver led entering the last round but faded with a 76.
