 NOTES:
Annika Sorenstam sank an 11-foot birdie putt on the second extra
hole to defeat Rachel Teske and capture last year's event. Sorenstam, who
led by four strokes after Saturday's third round, had captured 16 of the
25 LPGA tournaments in which she held the advantage heading into the final
round. After finishing regulation tied at 10-under-par 274, Sorenstam and
Teske (competed as Rachel Hetherington from 1997-2000) returned to the par-
five 18th hole for the first hole of sudden death. Teske's 20-foot birdie
attempt on that hole slid five feet by but she made the putt on the way back
for par. Sorenstam missed her 10-footer for birdie and the pair moved on to
the par-four first hole. Hetherington came up short of the green with her
approach while Sorenstam knocked her six-iron to 11 feet, setting up the
winning putt. Se Ri Pak's bid to win her third consecutive Jamie Farr Kroger
Classic title came up short when her nine-foot birdie attempt on the 18th hole
lipped out and she finished one shot out of the playoff. Pak, who began the
day five shots behind Sorenstam, birdied five of the first 13 holes. Nancy
Lopez is a four-time runner-up at this event while Tammie Green has finished
second three times. Only five players have ever posted four rounds in the 60s
at this event: Kelly Robbins (1997), Lisa Hackney, Cindy Figg-Currier, Pat
Hurst and Lorie Kane (1998). This event has never had a wire-to-wire winner.
This is the 13th consecutive year that Highland Meadows is hosting the
tournament. Prior to Highland Meadows, Glengarry Country Club hosted the
tournament the first four years of the event. Se Ri Pak, Kelly Robbins and
Penny Hammel are the only two-time winners of this event. There have been four
playoffs in tournament history, including last year. The LPGA Tour moves to
Missouri next week for the Michelob Light Classic at Fox Ron Golf Club where
Lorie Kane will defend her title.
