NOTES:
One shot off the pace when the weekend began, J.J. Henry carded a
six-under 66 to take a three-shot lead into Sunday's final round and then
held on to become the fifth first-time winner at this event. Henry's final
round score of 73 tied him with Darron Stiles for the highest final-round
scored turned in by a winner during the 2000 BUY.COM season. Henry capped off
the win with a three-foot par putt on the final hole to edge Tripp Isenhour,
Gene Sauers, Chris Smith and Spike McRoy by one shot. Henry will not be on
hand to defend his title as he is competing on the PGA Tour. Currently, Henry has
made the cut in only five of 15 events, including a second place finish at the
Kemper Insurance Open. Henry began and ended his third round with eagles,
including a 35-foot putt on the 18th. Chris Smith and Don Reese established
a new course record at Fox Den with eight-under 64's. Smith finished the event
tied for second while Reese tied for 9th. The purse was increased by $25,000
from last year. This is the third straight year in which Fox Den Country Club
is hosting the tournament. Willow Creek Country Club hosted this event the
first five years, followed by Three Ridges Golf Club the next four years. Next
week, the BUY.COM Tour moves to Pennsylvania for the Hershey Open where
Paul Gow captured the 2000 event.
