Carlsberg
at the Cobra
The European
Tour moves from Australia to Malaysia for the Carlsberg Malaysian
Open played from the 15th to 18th February at the Saujana G &
CC
Known as ‘The
Cobra’ referring to the way in which the 18 holes coil snakelike
through the old palm plantation, the Saujana Golf and Country Club
strikes early. The 216 yard par three 2nd hole, involves a shot
over a huge ravine and is claimed to be the most difficult hole
in Kuala Lumpar
The
third hole again involves a ravine but could be considered a gentle
assault when compared to the Stadium Hole. The 8th one of course's
signature holes, 413 yards, it has a huge depression to the left
of the fairway.
Homeward
bound, the golfer still has to get through the final three holes.
That is if he is still mentally and physically in shape. The humidity
is intense and the physical demands of the course take their toll.
The
par three 16th is uphill and the journey there can be tricky. The
17th, at 360 yards has a severe dog-leg left, causing the player
to seize all his courage to go for the green. The long 18th par
five has a narrow approach to the green and 575 yards of difficulties
before the pin.
Although
not defending his title Lee Westwood last year's winner will be
watching the tournament with interest over the next 4 days
