Vijay Singh wins at third extra hole

With birdies at the 15th and 16th overnight leader Padraig Harrington held a two stroke lead from Masters Champion Vijay Singh.

Singh had earlier taken the lead with birdies at the 12th, 13th and 16th. However a disasterous double bogey at the 17th gave the lead back to overnight leader Harrington.

A birdie at the last meant that Singh was round in 68 for a 14 under par score. With Harrington dropping a shot at the 17th, the Irishman had to birdie the last for an outright win. A tricky fifteen foot putt missed and Singh and Harrington were into sudden death extra holes.

Both players parred the 18th, the first extra hole and then playing the hole again as the 2nd extra hole both made birdie at their second attempt before moving to the 17th hole where Singh coolly two-putted for birdie and Harrington missed from six feet.

Masters champion Vijay Singh who won his eighth European Tour title took the first prize of £104,000 while Harrington - who finished with a 70 - had to settle for £69,779 which strengthened his place in the Ryder Cup standings.

American Ahmad Dan Bateman and Korean Charlie Wi had finished tied third two shots behind while New Zealand's Michael Campbell fell back with a final round 73. Maintain his new found steadiness former Open Champion John Daly carded a closing round of 69 for a 72 hole total of 282 and a share of 14th place.
