David Toms wins traditional par 3 contest

David Toms won the annual par-3 contest at the Masters on Wednesday, giving him virtually no chance of winning the actual tournament, which starts Thursday.

Toms carded a nine-hole score of five-under 22 to win by one shot. He had one of four holes-in-one during the day, acing the third hole.

However, no winner of the par-3 contest has won the actual tournament in the same year since the inception of the par-3 contest in 1960.

The four holes-in-one made Wednesday equaled the record set previously in 1996 and '97. A total of 45 holes-in-one have been made since the par-3 contest began.

Darren Clarke, Scott Verplank and Chris Perry had the other holes-in-one.

Loren Roberts finished second in Wednesday's contest with a four-under 23. Greg Norman, David Duval, Jim Furyk, Franklin Langham and two-time Masters champion Ben Crenshaw finished tied for third at minus-three.
David Toms shows off his par 3 trophy. Allsport.
