Campbell gains narrow victory

Chad Campbell shot a 69 for a one-stroke victory in the Buy.com Tour's Monterey Peninsula Classic on Sunday.

Campbell, who shot an 8-under 280 through four rounds to beat Deane Pappas for his third victory of the year, won $81,000 and set a tour single season earnings record with $363,959.

``That was what I was shooting for,'' the 27-year-old said. ``It's my fifth year and it's nice to make it. After my second win, the goal became to finish first on the money list or win again.''

The Dallas native fired a 33 on the back nine at Bayonet Golf Course. Tied with Pappas on the 72nd hole, Campbell hit an 8-iron within 3 feet of the hole. After watching his co-leader miss a birdie attempt, he tapped in the winning putt.
