NOTES:
Three shots off the pace when Sunday's final round began, Jamie Spence
carded a tournament tying, eight-under 64 to post a four-shot win over Ian
Poulter, Thomas Levet and Sebastien Delagrange. Spence, runner in 1993 at this
event, recorded his second career European Tour victory. Spence, who opened
the event with a hole-in-one during day one, was the only player in the field
to post all four rounds in the 60's. Fredrik Jacobson, who tied for 31st, also
registered an ace during the first day. The win by Spence snapped an eight-
year drought since his first win in 1992 at the Canon European Masters. This
event returns to the Dar-es-Salam course which hosted the tournament in 1987,
'92 and '96. Although the Red Course has not staged a European Tour event in
five years, it has not lacked top-quality action on its fairways, the most
recent event being the 29th staging of the Hassan II Trophy last November, won
by England's Roger Chapman. Golf Royal de Agadir played host to the event in
(1993-95, 97-99) while Golf D'Amelkis in Marrakech was the venue last year.
David Gilford is the only two-time winner of the event. Next week, the
European Tour moves to Valencia, Spain for the Open de Espana.
