Jimenez & Love lead in LA

Pacific Palisades, CA (Sports Network) - Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez fired a five-under 66 to join Davis Love III at the top of a crowded leaderboard at seven-under-par 135 after Friday's second round of the Nissan Open near Los Angeles.

Love, who won at Pebble Beach earlier this month and lost in a playoff at the Buick Invitational two weeks ago, carded a four-under 67 for his share of the lead at Riviera Country Club.

A total of 33 players are within four shots of the lead, including Tiger Woods. The world's top-ranked player eagled the second to last hole for a 68 and a two-day total of three-under 139.

Brandel Chamblee, Scott McCarron, Chris Perry and Craig Barlow each posted 68s and stand one shot out of the top spot at 136 with Shigeki Maruyama, who had a 69.

Last year's champion Kirk Triplett, who opened with a 66 to share the opening-round lead, fell apart on Friday with a 10-over 81 that featured six bogeys and four double-bogeys. He dropped to five-over and missed the cut.

The three other first-round leaders fared better than Triplett in round two. Tom Scherrer shot an even-par 71 and heads a group of eight players at five-under par, while Sergio Garcia turned in a 72 to finish the day with 12 others at minus-four. Brent Schwarzrock struggled to a four-over 75 and dropped six shots off the pace to one-under 141.

Other notables to miss the cut, which came at even-par 142, included: at one-over, Frank Lickliter and Mike Weir; at two-over, Jose Maria Olazabal; at three-over, two-time Nissan winner Fred Couples; and at five-over, Phil Mickelson.

Mickelson, who successfully defended his title at the Buick Invitational, posted rounds of 73-74 to miss his second cut in five starts this season. He also failed to qualify for the weekend at the Phoenix Open in late January
