Love takes three-shot lead into Sunday at Nissan Open

Pacific Palisades, CA (Sports Network) - Davis Love III shot a 68 in the chilly rain Saturday to open a three-shot lead heading into the final round of the Nissan Open. Love, who has a three-day total of 10-under-par 203, is pursued by Robert Allenby, Corey Pavin, Dennis Paulson and Craig Barlow at minus-seven.

Allenby was within one stroke of Love through 17 holes but closed with a bogey for a 69. Pavin, who posted back-to-back wins at this event in 1994 and '95, turned in the day's co-low of four-under 67 after birdieing three of the last four holes at Riviera Country Club.

Paulson and Barlow shot 68 and 69, respectively, to join the logjam in second place.

Nick Price (69), Jeff Sluman (70) and Michael Muehr (70) stand four shots off the pace at six-under 207, while Tiger Woods carded a rather uneventful round of 69 to head a group of 10 players at minus- five.

Love, who missed an opportunity for a birdie when he pulled his six-foot putt at the 15th, made it to double-digits under par with a 50-foot birdie putt from off the green at the par-five 17th.

"I was thinking about speed," Love said of the long putt. "I picked out a spot farther up the hill. Did I expect to make it? No."

Love is ranked seventh on the PGA Tour with a final-round scoring average of 66.75. He fired a 63 on the final day to capture the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am -- his first victory in 63 starts -- then shot 67 to join a three-way playoff at the Buick Invitational.

Although he finished second in the Buick after losing in extra holes to Phil Mickelson, Love took over first place on the season money list with a total of $1,146,600.

Of the 17 times he has entered the final round with at least a share of the lead, Love has held on to win seven titles.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, who was tied with Love for the lead through two rounds, shot a two-over 73 to slip back into the crowd of players at five-under 208.
