Parnevik well placed
after 68
Jesper Parnevik shot a commanding
second round of 68, three-under-par in the Open Championship this morning, to
advance his place on the clubhouse leader board to sole possession of second place.
Three birdies on the outward nine laid the foundations for the Swede's performance,
and although two birdies at the 11th and 15th were cancelled out by a pair of
bogeys at holes 14 and 17, Parnevik's two-round total of 137, five-under-par,
sits just a shot off Colin Montgomerie's first round lead of six-under-par.
"I feel very confident
right now," admitted Parnevik after his round at a sunny Royal Lytham. "I'm
probably playing better than I have been in a very long time. When I woke up this
morning it was clear blue skies for a change and no winds, so I knew I had to
shoot a fairly low score just to hang in there, because I think we are going to
see some fairly low scores this afternoon."
Parnevik has twice finished runner-up in the Open, at Turnberry in 1994 and
Royal Troon in 1997, so he is no stranger to the pressures involved with contention.
