Nick Price makes early move

Former Open champion Nick Price has worked his way into a strong position for the weekend's play at the 2001 Open with an excellent second round of 67, four-under-par, for a halfway total of 140, two-under-par.

Price, who won the Open at Turnberry in 1994 and also has the 1992 and 1994 PGA Championships to his name, secured four birdies in a scorching front nine. Even though two birdies on the back nine were matched by a pair of bogeys, Zimbabwe's finest golfer finished his round four shots better-off
than when he started.

"I had a good day and made a lot of birdies," commented Price once his card
was signed, "though I would like to be a bit closer. I went out there and did
what I had to do but I left some shots out there. It was a perfect day for scoring with the greens like billiard tables, so the course was there for the taking."

Price has proved in the past that he is capable of performing exceptionally well in the Open at Lytham, as he finished runner-up to Seve Ballesteros in 1988.

The golfer is clearly looking forward to the weekend's play:"Of all the major
championships I've played the last four to five years, this golf course is
set up absolutely perfect.

"This course is not just a putting contest like we've seen in recent majors.
This is a real ball-striking championship."
