Cejka shows welcome return to form

Alexander Cejka is not as well known as his ex-television presenter wife Mirka in the land of his birth but he is hoping to change that with a strong finish at Royal Lytham and St Annes over the weekend.

Cejka, who had to qualify to get into this week's British Open, completed a second successive 69 on Friday to move to four under for the tournament after 36 holes.

The Czech-born German, who has only dropped four shots over the first two days, knows he is playing well and would dearly love to make the news at Lytham at the business end of the 130th British Open.

"My wife used to have her own TV show in Prague so she's better known than me in the Czech Republic," he said. "Now she's moderating the news, so people look more to her than to me.

"But it could be that, if I keep going like this, she will be reading out a news bulletin about me after this weekend."

The 31-year-old Cejka, who qualified for the British Open after rounds of 72 and 65 at Hillside, fired four birdies on Friday but dropped a couple of shots in his last four holes to slip back to four under overall.

"I knew those last few holes were going to be a little tricky and difficult, but I was fighting until the end," he said, after driving into the rough at the last and then two- putting for a bogey-five.
