Seven lead on rain shortened
day
Seven golfers share the
lead of the Buy.com Ozarks Open at seven-under par as play was suspended due to
darkness late Thursday.
Jamie Rogers, Mike Grob,
Todd Barranger, Sung Man Lee, Omar Uresti, Brenden Pappas and Steve Runge are
in the clubhouse with 65s as play was halted for over three hours in the first
round because of heavy rain, which left almost a half an inch of rain on Highland
Springs Country Club.
Due to the delays, 34 players
will return to the course at 8:15 a.m. (et) Friday morning to complete their first
rounds.
If the seven players remain
tied after the first round in completed, that would match the Buy.com Tour record
for most tied for the 18-hole lead.
Rogers was the first in
the clubhouse at seven-under and he used a hot streak on the back nine to get
up the leaderboard. He birdied the first three holes on his second nine and then
chipped in for birdie at the par- four 14th.
He ran home a 12-foot birdie
at No. 16 and closed out with another chip-in birdie at the closing hole.
"The conditions out there
are ideal," said Rogers. It's just how the greens hold up. They are getting softer."
Grob posted one birdie
on his front nine but scored four birdies in his first five holes on the back
nine. He bogeyed his 15th hole but closed out three more birdies, all from outside
of 12 feet.
"I haven't played well
in a while so that made it a little tough," said Grob. "It's really nice to be
done now. It's hard to split your round between two days."
Barranger had only an eight-iron
into the green at the par-five 18th and set up an eight-foot eagle to join the
logjam at the top.
Lee made two late birdies
at 14 and 15 to card his 65.
Uresti and Pappas were
flawless on Thursday with seven birdies and no bogeys.
Runge birdied three out
his last four holes in his first round to become the last player to join the pack
in first.
Don Reese, Jeff Sanday,
Patrick Sheehan, Steve Haskins, Heath Slocum, Matt Peterson, Shane Bertsch and
Jason Dufner completed their first rounds and are tied for eighth at six-under
with Iain Steel, who made it through 16 holes.
