Rain washes out second
days play
Heavy rainfall forced tournament
officials to suspend Friday's second-round action at the Buy.com Ozarks Open.
"We just got to the point
that the golf course needs some drying time and we don't feel like we'd be playing
under equitable conditions if we continued today," said PGA Tour Tournament Director
Jim Duncan. "Our plans right now are to complete the second round tomorrow and
then play 36 holes on Sunday."
Play was stopped at 9:40
a.m. (et) and was canceled at 2:30 p.m. (et), with several groups yet to tee off
in their second round.
"It's a lot of rain, but
it isn't something we haven't seen before," said Buy.com Ozarks Open Executive
Director Jerald Andrews. "When you look at the golf course, there are some good
spots but the course has really taken on a lot of water and the thinking was to
let it rest, recover and dry out."
More rain is in the forecast
for Saturday.
Omar Uresti birdied three
of his first five holes Friday and owns the lead at 10-under par. Uresti, one
of the Buy.com Tour record eight players to share the 18-hole lead, is one shot
better than Brenden Pappas, who birdied two of his first four holes.
Steve Haskins and Matt
Peterson each posted an early eagle Friday and are tied for third at minus-eight.
