Evans moves to top of
leaderboard
Gary Evans posted a second-round
score of 67 to move to the top of the leaderboard at 11-under-par 133 Friday at
the Scottish PGA Championship. The Englishman holds a one-shot lead over Australian
Peter Fowler, who shot a 68.
Evans was among the 66
players who were back on the course early Friday morning to complete the first
round. Play had been suspended Thursday due to darkness after heavy fog delayed
the start of the tournament, and the 33-year- old Evans played 22 holes on Friday
without dropping a single shot.
"I am honestly feeling
very comfortable with my swing at this moment and I just want to try to keep doing
what I'm doing," said Evans, who is in search of his first win on the European
tour.
Fowler, who matched Evans'
opening-round 66, ran into trouble on the par-three sixth. He managed a double-bogey
after his tee shot hit a cart path and rolled down a hill leaving him with a terrible
lie. He countered by birdieing the very next hole. Fowler added four more birdies
on the back-nine to take sole possession of second place.
"I hit the ball really
good this morning, last night was steady but nothing spectacular," he said. "But
this afternoon I hit all my shots really well and finished it off by putting great
so I'm very pleased."
Mark Mouland was one of
the many players to complete the first round Friday morning. Mouland carded a
65 to take the first-round lead but dropped into third after a second round of
70 to finish at nine-under 135.
Greg Turner and Carlos
Rodiles have had identical rounds of 69 and 67 to finish 36-holes tied for fourth
at eight-under 136.
Three players finished
the second round four strokes off the lead at seven- under, including Ryder Cup
hopeful Andrew Oldcorn. Oldcorn, currently 14th on the points rankings, could
use a good finish to help his cause for obtaining a ticket to The Belfry for next
month's matches versus the U.S.
Andrew Coltart, 13th in
the Ryder Cup rankings, missed the cut by one stroke after his second-round score
of 74 dropped him to one-over 145.
