NOTES:
Janice Moodie became the fifth wire-to-wire winner of this event,
as she defeated Pat Hurst and Grace Park by two shots for the victory.
Moodie opened with a five-under 66 and added a 68 in round two for a
two-shot lead over Maria Hjorth, who tied the course record with a
sizzling 63. Moodie closed out her first career LPGA Tour win with a
69 for a three-day total of 203. Hurst closed with a 64 to tie Grace
Park for second while Hjorth shot a 78 to tie for 44th. Moodie is
attempting to become the first player in tournament history to win
this event two straight years. Juli Inkster and Betsy King are the only
two-time winners of this event. Inkster has finished in the top-10 at this
event nine times, including last year's fourth-place finish while Beth
Daniel and Rosie Jones have seven top-10's. King, who set a nine-hole
record of 29 in 1999, has finished in the top-10 six times. There have
been 16 holes-in-one at this event, including one last year by Jean Zedlitz.
Seaview hosted this event the first two years of its existence followed by
Greate Bay Resort and Country Club the next 10 years, before returning to
Seaview in 1998. The purse was increased by $100,000 from last year.
There have been only two playoffs in tournament history, the last coming in
1992 when Anne-Marie Palli defeated Laura Davies on the first playoff hole.
The LPGA Tour moves to Ohio next week for the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic at
Highland Meadows Golf Club where Annika Sorenstam will defend her title.
