Bates wins with record
score
Pat Bates shot a final-round
67 Sunday to cap a tournament-record 20-under 268 and win the Buy.com Tour's Shreveport
Open by one stroke over Brian Kamm.
The title was Bates' second
of the year and fourth of his career. The $76,500 first-place check moved him
to fifth on the tour's money list and assured him of a top 15th finish and a spot
on the 2002 PGA Tour.
``I tried not to think about
the money list all year and just try to put myself in position,'' said Bates,
who entered the tournament ninth on the money list.
Kamm, who closed with a
3-under 69 at Southern Trace Country Club, started the final round with a one-stroke
lead over Bates.
Bates took the lead for
good with a birdie on No. 6.
Don Reese, who had a 65,
and Stiles Mitchell, who had a 66, tied for third at 271.
