Singh takes lead-Montgomerie closes

Singapore (Sports Network) - Vijay Singh posted a three-under 68 on Saturday to take a one-shot lead after 54 holes of the Singapore Masters. Singh's 18-under 195 is one better than overnight leader Frankie Minoza.

Colin Montgomerie is alone in fifth at 15-under. The Scotsman carded a six-under 65 on Saturday to close within 3 shots of Singh, poised to strike on Sunday for the title.

Play was suspended for almost three hours on Saturday as heavy thunderstorms ripped through the Bukit Course at the Singapore Island Country Club.

Singh and Minoza were tied at 18-under through 13 holes when the rain and lightning struck. After play resumed, Singh bogeyed the 14th hole to fall one back. Minoza's lead was doubled at the next hole with a birdie at the par-five hole.

It wasn't until the closing holes where Minoza's lead evaporated. He bogeyed the final two holes coming in and that, coupled with a Singh birdie at the last gave the reigning Masters champion the outright lead.

Minoza, who shattered the course record on Friday with a 10-under 61, held a two-shot edge going into Saturday's third round. Singh birdied number-four to cut the lead to one and when Minoza dropped a shot on the sixth, the pair were tied for the lead.

Singh bogeyed seven to fall behind by one but reclaimed the lost stroke with a birdie at the ninth, a hole he has birdied three times in as many days. Minoza regained the advantage at the 10th with a birdie to go to 17-under.

It was after the 13th where the players once again found themselves tied for the lead. Singh eagled the par-five hole while Minoza birdied knotting the pair at 18-under before play was suspended.

Sweden's Mikael Lundberg and England's Warren Bennett share third

Prayad Marksaeng finished the round in sixth place at 14-under 199.
