Colin Montgomerie is set
to play the U.S. Open after receiving treatment for a back injury.
''He's definitely going
(Monday),'' his manager, Guy Kinnings, said today.
The tournament at Southern
Hills in Tulsa, Okla., begins Thursday. Montgomerie has never won one of golf's
four majors.
He withdrew from the English
Open during Friday's second round with a sore back. The 37-year-old Scotsman received
treatment in London and has had three sessions with a London doctor the last two
days, Kinnings said.
''We are very happy with
how the treatment and the rest has gone,'' he said.
Montgomerie has finished
second twice and third once in the U.S. Open. He regards the U.S. Open as his
best chance at winning a major.
