NOTES:
One shot off the pace of Ian Woosnam heading into Sunday's final round,
Steen Tinning carded a three-under 69 to edge David Howell by one shot and
register his first career win last year. Woosnam struggled on Sunday with a
one-over 73 to tie for third. Howell had a chance to force a playoff but
three-putted the 17th hole. The purse was increased by 250,000 pounds from
last year. This is the second year of the tournament. The last time a tour
event was held in Wales prior to this tournament was back in 1979 through 1982
for the Welsh Golf Classic. Mark James, Sandy Lyle, Des Smyth and Gordon
Brand, Jr. were the winners of that event. Most of the top players are resting
up or competing on the PGA Tour at the Buick Open, as they tune-up for next
week's PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club. The next event on the
European Tour is next week's North West of Ireland Open where Massimo Scarpa
is expected to defend his title.
