NOTES:
Two shots behind third-round leader Dale Eggeling when Sunday's final
round began, Meg Mallon carded a five-under 67 and win for the 12th time in
her career. Mallon, who later added the du Maurier Classic to her list of
wins, defeated Wendy Doolan by two shots while Eggeling finished alone in
third after a closing 73. Doolan posted a Sunday 66, tying Cristie Kerr, who
tied for fifth, for the low round of the tournament. Rain plagued the event
for three of the four days and the temperature dropped on Sunday from the low
70s to the mid-50's by the conclusion of the event. Rosie Jones, Patty
Sheehan, Pat Bradley and Nancy Lopez are the only multiple winners of this
event. Lopez, a three-time winner here, has also finished second three times.
Bradley, a two-time winner, has also finished second three times. Mallon is
trying to join Lopez and Sheehan as the only back-to-back winners of this
tournament. Sheehan was the last player to accomplish the feat in 1989-90.
Locust Hill is the third-longest running host course on the LPGA Tour, behind
Mission Hills Country Club and Rail Golf Club and has has hosted this event
since its inception in 1977. Next week the LPGA Tour moves across the pond to
France for the Evian Masters where Annika Sorenstam will defend her title.
