Price holds on to narrow lead

Phillip Price kept his cool and the lead in the British Masters, with a third round 68 at Woburn.

Up until the final hole Price was on course for a blemish-free round, with birdies coming on two, four, seven, ten and twelve, as he looked to maintain his two shot lead going into the final round.

But the Welshman, who had built up a three-shot lead at the turn, will be disappointed with his bogey on the 18th, as Price will tee-off on Sunday defending a slender one-shot advantage.

Ian Poulter is breathing down Price’s neck, having carded a five under par 67, while Justin Rose produced some of the day’s best golf with a brilliant 65.

Rose has enjoyed a fine showing on the European Tour this season and Saturday’s round was symptomatic of his general form.

He may have missed the cut at Wentworth last week, but eight birdies will please Rose as he prepares for Sunday.

Ever sinece he burst onto the scene at the 1998 Open Rose has promised much, and it seems he is finally delivering this year.

Gary Evans followed up two rounds of 69 with a 66, and the Englishman will play with Rose tomorrow as the day’s penultimate pairing.

Fans had turned out in force at Woburn hoping to see 1988 champion capitalise on Friday’s 65.

The Scot still managed a two-under par 70, but his nine under par total means that he now has his work cut out for him.
