Rose wins fourth title
of 2002
England's Justin Rose shot
a 7-under-par 65 Sunday for a one-shot victory over countryman Ian Poulter in
the British Masters.
The 21-year-old Rose finished
at 19-under 269 for his fourth victory of the season and second European Tour
win of the year. He won the Dunhill Championship in South Africa in January and
also won the Nashua Masters in February and the Chunichi Crowns title in Japan
last month.
Poulter missed an 8-foot
par putt on No. 18 that would have forced a playoff. He finished with a 68 and
a four-round total of 18-under 270.
Rose said winning a full-field
European Tour event was important.
``It was great to be able
to hug my family at the back of the 18th tee,'' said Rose, whose father, Ken,
is recovering from leukemia and was present to see the victory.
``Not having won before,
then four in five months. It is sort of pinch-yourself stuff.''
Wales' Phillip Price, who
led after three rounds, shot a 72 and was third at 273.
Colin Montgomerie had a
67 and finished fourth at 274, moving into second place on the European Order
of Merit.
