Clarke & Mosely share
lead
Darren Clarke, a two-time
English Open champion, shot a 7-under-par 65 Thursday and shared the first-round
lead of that tournament with Jarrod Moseley of Australia.
Didier de Vooght of Belgium,
Gary Orr of Scotland, and Englishmen Mark Roe, Graeme Storm and Grant Hamerton
were all two strokes back at 7,213-yard Marriott Forest of Arden course.
A group of 11 at 68 included
tournament favorite Justin Rose, who won last week's British Masters, and the
man he beat for that title, Ian Poulter.
Clarke made a 20-foot putt
for birdie at No. 2, birdied three of the four par-5s and hit irons close to the
pin for his other three birdies.
Moseley made five birdie
putts between 10 and 15 feet, but the highlight of his round was an eagle 3 at
the 516-yard 17th. He struck a 3-wood second shot 237 yards that stopped a foot
short of the hole.
Rose, whose victory at Woburn
was his fourth this year, birdied four holes on the back nine, three on putts
between 10 and 12 feet.
